Coming to you live from a cabin in the woods, malbec in hand, long-sleeved, and covered in OFF!
This is surely going to be a relaxed trip. As such, there will be a good chunk of reading. Here’s a clip from Crime and Punishment I liked.
Greg, get ready to watch some videos.
If you like Star Wars or AI, watch this video, it’s worth the click. https://x.com/venturetwins/status/1931830096052298123

They’ve done some non-Star Wars ones too. The question I have is, “why are they all selfies”. Is it just the style? Is AI better at replicating it due to the sheer amount of training data built off of selfies? Are there real videos “beneath” the AI costume that they are modeled after?

I’ve seen Moses, 1776, Star Wars…I’m sure I’ll see more before finishing this.
Another big AI advancement is this 4D video creation tool — https://x.com/EHuanglu/status/1931395020084666757. Basically imagine 2D photos as videos. Impressive!
Movies not videos. Or do you say
Maybe thanks to Cinema Speculation which I’ve been listening too, I’ve gone back and watched some old movies mentioned in the book. I realized I wasn’t familiar with almost a single movie, actor, or director that Quentin Tarantino was mentioning. I wasn’t alive during those eras, but I would have thought more made it through. The list will grow, but I added some below, and a few others from random other encounters — mainly Wes Anderson movies. it turns out he was/is close friends with the Wilson brothers, Owen and Luke. I just watched Life Aquatic, which features Owen, most famously (to me) known as Hansel. So hot right now.
I forget what class, a Psych lab perhaps?
One of the extra credit points was some fill in the blank; Bears, Beets, __________.
I didn’t know the answer then, but I learned after the fact, here’s a clip — but apparently they use the phrase more in the series. I just haven’t watched THAT many episodes so I don’t recall seeing it anywhere else but here.
Unplugged, not Nirvana
I’m likely going to be very light tech this week, but on the other hand, I might get inspired to write, so the challenge will be staying on task despite sitting on a laptop which is a easy distraction if connected to the internet. I’ll likely write things down for real unless I get motivated to write enough that I need to type for speed and endurance or maybe I’ll just transcribe what I write, assuming it’s legible.
I know it’s not your concern, but it’s a common battle — do you write anything by hand any more? Do you type outside of you job? Do you do both and/or neither? Another favorite of mine on hikes (at least when solo) is to leave myself voice memos, so maybe I’ll get a couple of those. I’m sure you’ll see the results sometime soon. In the meantime, enjoy the IG stories over at @gringordo.
This song reminds me of childhood KROQ — it’s really the only reason I know Nirvana music, but they played a lot of it.. I guess I always knew the Nirvana version, but here is the original if you want to start digging.
